Craft Design + Build

Craft Design + Build is a luxury home remodeling company based in Essex, Connecticut that wanted to update its website. Although their existing site was functional, they desired a redesign to enhance user-friendliness and modernize their overall look.

Problem

The client aimed for their customers to book a consultation after visiting their site with a primary emphasis on the CTA navigation. The main issue was overstimulation with information being repeated across multiple screens.

Solution

I decided to place the CTA button on the top menu, making it easy for users to book a consultation. With the amount of misinformation, we worked on specific pages dedicated to the client's business such as bathroom, kitchen, and additional space renovations.

User Stories

The user stories the client wanted us to focus on were:

  1. As a user, I want to access the Craft Design + Build homepage.

  2. As a user, I want to learn how the company works.

  3. As a user, I want to access the investment guide.

  4. As a user, I want to contact the company.

I selected the user story, As a user, I want the contact the company. I focused on this page because it represents the final destination for a prospective client at the end of their user journey.

Usability flows

I discovered through my assigned user flow that there were multiple paths a user could take. Specifically, the contact page could be accessed through six different screens. Initially, I only considered the top menu. However, upon further reflection, I recognized that users could reach the "Contact Us" page via the Bathroom Pricing, Kitchen Pricing, and Additional Pricing pages.

Developer Hand Off

Finally, it was time to annotate the screens for the developers. I meticulously measured the distance between cards, links, and words throughout the Contact Page. The footer and menu were handled separately to avoid repetition on every page. The black notes explain where each underlined button would be linked and include a confirmation message after the user books a consultation. The developers can easily identify where each button lands throughout the website.

My Thoughts

This was the most effective team of designers I had the pleasure of working with. I understood the value of working with a talented group of designers who were efficient throughout the project. It was great communicating everyone's ideas out loud and receiving honest feedback to create a beautiful user interface for Craft Design + Build.

This project also challenged me as a designer to research luxury home remodeling companies that I was unfamiliar with. I investigated numerous designs that looked elegant and modern to attract a wealthy target audience. After countless design explorations, I perceived the importance of research and competitive analysis in finding innovative solutions.

Communication means everything when it comes to working in a team. When I decide to take on a leadership position, I will adopt the same principles demonstrated by this team moving forward.
